Music Factoids

Music fans tired of X Factor winners grabbing the Christmas No.1 successfully mounted an online spoiling campaign in 2009. "Killing In the Name" by Rage Against The Machine narrowly beat Joe McElderry’s "The Climb" to the number one spot, and prevented Simon Cowell from achieving a straight run of 5 successive Christmas No.1’s. McElderry still made No.1 the following week. This was the second successive year when this was attempted, Alexandra Burke’s version of the Leonard Cohen track "Hallelujah" beating off a similar attempt to bloody Cowell’s nose in 2008.
